Musona Delighted As Warriors Secure Afcon Qualification

Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has hailed Warriors for qualifying on the Africa Cup Of Nations championship last night after beating the Zebras of Botwana 1-0 at Obed  Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.

Musona praised his team mates for a fantastic display against Botswana despite that other key players like Tinotenda Kadewere, Marshal Munetsi and Marvelous Nakamba failed to feature for the decider contest due to various reasons.

“I am super proud of my squad , we conquered and played very well even though some of our players were sadly not present due to unforeseen circumstances. We did it for you guys who were not present and of course for the nation at large.” Musona posted on twitter.

The ZIFA technical advisor, Mr Wilson Mutekede also praised the Warriors for beating the Zebras, saying Zimbabweans will be happy about their performance.

“We are very happy about what the Warriors did here and we believe that Zimbabweans are happy too.”

The victory saw Zimbabwe shoot to eight points, three behind leaders Algeria, who also qualified with 11 points. Algeria settled for a 3-3 draw with Zambia.

Perfect Chikwende scored the crucial goal for Zimbabwe.

The Warriors have one game left before the qualifying campaign winds up, Zambia who have four points, cannot catch up with the Warriors even if they beat Zimbabwe.

The soccer squad’s success comes as a welcome relief to Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic, who was facing criticism following the Warriors’ disastrous show at Chan 2021 where they lost all their three matches.

The Warriors now need to prepare fully for the Afcon finals in Cameroon after their disappointing performance in the last tournament in Egypt where they picked up only one point from three matches.
