Zupco Dismisses Fares Hike Rumor

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) has dismissed the rumor circulating over social media that there will be an imminent increase in bus fares for the second time this year.

”Those are just rumors. Zupco will only increase fares after authorization from the line Ministry with full consultation processes done with stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Ncube said Zupco is terminating contracts on vehicles that fail to meet Zupco obligations.

”Zupco has no rights or control over who wants to be franchised or not. The contracts are premised on a win-win basis, we are aware of some private companies who are eager to join we are also terminating some (contracts)  due to failure to meet obligations.

”Not all buses refuse the tap cards  we have boarder methods to accommodate the needs of people.” The statement further read.
