Social media is raging over the removal of MDC Alliance activist, Johana Mamombe by the Zimbabwe Prison Services from Parktown Hospital where she was still on treatment following her admission at the hospital a few days ago due to stomach pains.
The MDC Alliance MP for Harare West who is facing charges of violating the Covid-19 lockdown regulations was reported to have been not ready for any discharge as she was still undergoing treatment.
Politicians have therefore risen on social media describing the whole situation as “cruel, inhuman & degrading treatment.”
“Johana Mamombe has been removed from Parktown Hospital by the Zimbabwe Prison Services, although her doctors had indicated that she was still on treatment.
“She was taken away a few minutes ago at 12.40 AM.
She was meant to see a specialist Friday morning at Parktown Hospital
“She was taken away a few minutes ago at 12.40 AM.
She was meant to see a specialist Friday morning. Journalist and political activist, Hopewell Chin’ono tweeted.
MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere announced the development, “Prison officials have sent an ambulance to collect Joana Mamombe from hospital even though her doctors haven’t discharged her. She’s still unwell & her doctors have referred her to a specialist who is scheduled to see her tomorrow. They say they have “instructions from above.”
“In the latest show of cruel, inhuman & degrading treatment,
“Johana Mamombe was forcibly removed from hospital by prison officials last night against the orders of her doctor who says she needs specialist treatment. She remains gravely ill & was scheduled to see a specialist today.” She said.
Politician Jonathan Moyo described the incident as, “INDECENT, INHUMANE & UNJUST.”
“Mnangagwa’s Prison Services officials storm Harare West MDC-A MP Honourable Joana Mamombe.‘s hospital bed & forcibly remove her BEFORE she had completed medical treatment prescribed by her doctors & WITHOUT following the hospital’s discharge protocols!” He said.
Lawyer and politician, David Coltart said, “MDCA Member of Parliament Joana Mamombe was removed from Parktown Hospital by the Zimbabwe Prison Services after midnight last night despite the fact that she is ill & waiting to see a specialist. ZANUPF is plumbing new depths of tyranny & cruelty.” He said.
Johana Mamombe together with activist Cecilia Chimbiri were on Wednesday denied bail again by the High Court because according to the High Court, “they have exhibited the propensity to continue committing similar offences each time they are granted bail.”
