Zimbabwe has by yesterday recorded 25 new Covid- 19 cases with 23 local infections and 2 infections from returnees from India, the current worst hit country in the world.
In a statement from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 3 Covid-19 related deaths were recorded yesterday bringing a total of 1582 deaths.
“9 cases with 1 death reported by Midlands, 2 are returnees from India and 7 are contacts of these cases.” The statement read in part.
The country has by yesterday recorded 38 491 Covid-19 infections with 36 286 recoveries.
The government is therefore urging Zimbabweans to get vaccinated against the Covid -19.
Presidential Spokesperson, George Charamba urged Zimbabweans to go and get vaccinated saying the country is at risk considering the Indians infections.
“Zimbabweans, we need to pause and reflect a little: we have in this statistic 2 returnees from India!!!!! That means Zimbabwe isn’t that far away from distraught India in epidemiological terms. Let’s watch out; be careful and do the needful to keep our Nation Safe!!! Get your Jab.” Charamba posted on twitter through his Jamwanda handle.
In India the virus is spreading rapidly to the rural areas. The country has reported more than 300,000 daily infections for 22 straight days.
