There seems to be confusion in government over the widely circulated “Kwekwe lockdown statement” as the police refused to comment on whether it’s true or false that the midlands town of Kwekwe has been put under an effective 3 weeks lockdown.
Contacted for clarification on the widely circulated statement purportedly from the ministry of health, police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi declined to comment and instead referred this reporter to the Ministry of health.
“Did you talk to the Ministry of Health? Call them, they know better.” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.
The alleged lockdown is brought upon by the Covid -19 Indian variant that hit the town.
We called the Ministry of Health and Child Care Public Relations Manager, Mr Donald Mujiri and he said he has no clue over the Kwekwe lockdown issue and rather referred us to the Ministry of Information.
“Mmm I am not sure, I have no clue about the lockdown. I think maybe you should call the Ministry of Information.” He said.
Comments from the Ministry of Information proved abortive as the secretary for information, Mr Nick Mangwana’s mobile was unavailable.
However most Kwekwe residents who got in touch with this publication said the situation over there is normal. They haven’t been informed about the lockdown yet.
