ZUPCO Reduce Fares With Immediate Effect

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has reduced its fares starting from today adding that all intercity buses will be redeployed to urban areas to increase operations and reduce overcrowding at ranks.

In a statement, ZUPCO said the price reduction is meant to clear congestion in urban centres.

“Following the announcement by His Excellence the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde ED Mnangagwa on new lockdown measures and in discussion with the Minister of Local Government and Public Works Hon July Moyo we have put in place measures to reduce congestion in urban centres and eliminate illegal transport modes,” the statement read in part.

Meanwhile, ZUPCO says its vehicles will adhere to lockdown regulations and observe the curfew.

Passengers travelling to the CBD are urged to do so between 8.30am and 3.30pm so as to minimize congestion.

The changes came following government’s revised lockdown restrictions yesterday, with police roadblocks on major roads removed until 10am as they were causing traffic bottlenecks.

However, the review of ZUPCO fares comes after commuters had complained that they were not able to cope with the 100% increase of fares by ZUPCO last month.

The reduced fares are as follows: from distances that range from 20km and below the new prices are now $40 for buses and $60 for omnibuses, from a distance that ranges from 21-30 km buses are now charging $60 whilst omnibuses will charge $80 and lastly from a distance that ranges from 31-40km buses are now charging $80.
