MDC T leader, Douglas Mwonzora says holding elections before reforms will be a waste of time.
Mwonzora said this whilst addressing journalists at their party’s headquarters in Harare this morning.
Mr Mwonzora said he is confident that the ruling government will approve of his party’s reforms, through dialogue, before the 2023 elections.
“As the MDC T, we believe in the Chinese saga, fight a hundred battles and win a hundred thank yous, so why should we budget for failure, we are going to push for these reforms and we are going to get them and right now we are focused on how to get these reforms, we know how to get them, we will get them through dialogue and this dialogue will be inclusive, genuine and unconditional.” He said.
The MDC T leader said he has already sent the document to President Mnangagwa and he is confident that his government will approve to the reforms.
“The MDC T has already drafted a document, we call it dialogue resource document. It deals with all those reforms that we want. On the electoral reforms, we want for example the diaspora vote, the reformation of ZEC, the linking of the delimitation to population census and also the involvement of the political parties or the stakeholders in poling station mapping.”
Other opposition political leaders are of the view that Mwonzora is afraid of losing the elections that is why is he pushing for reforms first so as to buy time.
When asked on whether he will still take part in the 2023 elections if President Mnangagwa does not approve of his reforms, Douglas Mwonzora said, “If Mnangagwa and his government refuse to implement reforms, We will still take part in the 2023 elections.”
