Biti Castigates Zanu Pf Attacks On Chamisa

MDC Alliance Vice President, advocate Tendai Biti has condemned alleged violent attacks that Nelson Chamisa is reportedly facing during his rural tours across all provinces in Zimbabwe.

The opposition party is alleging that these attacks are orchestrated by Zanu Pf as a way to defer Chamisa from campaigning and seeking rural support in the coming 2023 harmonized elections.

Last week Chamisa claimed that he was attacked whilst conducting his tour in Masvingo where reports say that one of his convoy car was seriously damaged.

Yesterday the opposition leader is also alleged to have escaped assassination attempts outside Mutare around Zimunya area.

Violence continues to rock the country’s political field with the MDC alliance claiming that Chamisa’s tours are disturbed by violent attacks from Zanu PF.

Addressing journalists in Harare today, former Minister of Finance advocate Tendai Biti narrated how Zanu Pf is disrupting Chamisa’s tours whilst condemning such activities being experienced by their president.

“On the 11th of October 2021 last week on Monday vehicles belonging to our party president advocate Nelson Chamisa were attacked in Masvingo one of his vehicles a Toyota fortuner was damaged very badly in Charumbira area of Masvingo.

“Yesterday the 19th of October 2021 his convoy was attacked just outside Mutare around Zimunya area as he drove from Chipinge an unlawful ambush was mounted gunshots were fired and one of the bullets actually whisked in the left rear seat.

“In the same day he also had about 12 vehicles following him so it is quiet clear that there is an attempt to insure that our party president does not meet Zimbabweans hence we condemn in the strongest terms the actions by Zanu PF that are behind their unlawful attacks on our president, both in Masvingo and in Manicaland,” he said.

However, earlier this month Zanu Pf acting commissar Patrick Chinamasa said Chamisa had no constitutional right to force Zimbabweans to listen to him adding that villagers were angered because a “madman” wanted to address them.

At the same time earlier this month Information Ministry secretary, Ndavaningi Mangwana and Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi also thanked the people of Masvingo for attacking and blocking Chamisa’s convoy.

They accused the MDC Alliance of stage-managing the attacks in order to draw the attention of the then expected United Nations Special Rapporteur Alena Douhan who was scheduled to visit Zimbabwe to assess the impact of sanctions in the country.

Nevertheless, if violence that is currently reported to be haunting Chamisa continues this is likely to compromise the 10 day visit by the UN rapporteur Alena Douhan.
