The United States of America {USA} and its western allies will have to take a decisive action to rescue Ukraine, following media reports that Russia has officially struck major Ukrainian cities today.
Reports from officials and media say Russian forces fired missiles at several cities in Ukraine and landed troops on its coast today.
On his Twitter handle Ukranian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed the invasion.
“Putin has just launched a full scale invasion of Ukraine. Peaceful Ukranian cities are under strikes.”
“This is a war of aggression Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.”
Meanwhile, world leaders like the president of the United States, Joe Biden, his counterpart in the UK, Boris Johnson, have spoken against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Biden, condemned the military invasion by Russia describing it as ” an unprovoked and unjustified attack on Ukraine.”
He said, ” President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering. Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.”
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Jonson, told Ukranian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a phone call on Thursday that “the west would not stand by as President Putin waged his campaign against the Ukranian people.”
Japan Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, on Thursday condemned Russia’s invasion of eastern Ukraine, saying it “shakes the foundations of the international order.”
Russia is demanding an end to NATO’s eastward expansion and Putin repeated his position that Ukrainian membership of the U.S led to an Atlantic military alliance was unacceptable.
He insisted he had authorized military action after Russia had been left with no choice but to defend itself against what he said were threats emanating from modern Ukraine a democratic state of 44 million people.
