Zupco Bus Crashes Into A House In Highfields

A ZUPCO Bus crashed into a house in Harare, Highfields at Corner Mangwende and Highfield Road this morning.

Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster ZBC confirmed on its Twitter handle that the conductor was injured, but all passengers escaped without scratch.

ZBC said, “A ZUPCO bus crashed into a house this morning in Harare, Highfield at Corner Mangwende & Highfield Road”.

“The conductor was hurt, passengers escaped uninjured.”

The accident comes after two ZUPCO buses recently collided near Chinhoyi on the Harare-Chirundu highway and killed four people.

However, people expressed their grief on ZUPCO accidents, insisting that most buses are not fit to carry passengers.

Below are some reactions from people on Twitter:

“ZUPCO buses going to Highfields are already the norm, just go coz there is no option but people’s lives are in danger.

“The Gvt should remove those ramshackle buses from our roads. 80% of ZUPCO buses will not pass a proper VID Inspection. Are these buses being inspected? Remove those death traps from our roads.

“It’s high time we take those ‘mirakwani’ off the road for good.”

ZUPCO was reintroduced following fuel price hikes on January 13, 2019 and the subsequent protests against the cost of transport, which were charged by private operators.
