South Africa Cancels Mask Mandates

South Africa (SA) may soon lift the COVID-19 restriction measure of wearing face masks since March 2020.

According to a letter by SA Health Minister, Joe Phaahla which he sent to MECs, the country has exited the 5th wave and can consider repealing Covid-19 regulations.

At the moment, wearing masks in SA is compulsory in indoor spaces, including shopping malls and public transport.

There is also a 50% cap on the number of people allowed in a venue if people are fully vaccinated, or if people can show their negative Covid-19 tests.

Phaahla also recommended that the country should drop its entry requirements for travellers.

Meanwhile, travellers are expected to show a vaccination certificate, or a negative Covid-19 test.
