MDC Chides Zanu Pf Over Brutal Attack On Elderly CCC Supporters

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust.

The MDC Alliance has condemned a video circulating on social media where alleged Zanu Pf youths brutally attacked Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) elderly supporters for hosting a party meeting in Murehwa.

The attack comes at a time when Zimbabwe is preparing to hold the crunch 2023 general elections in August, at a date to be announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In a statement, the MDC party condemned the attack, urging the police to urgently arrest the alleged perpetrators.

They said, “our hearts are with the Murehwa victims of sadistic violence by a group of thugs purporting to be a law unto themselves. We condemn the brutality against opposition supporters, as seen on video circulating on social media.

“The MDC calls upon the Zimbabwe Republic Police {ZRP} to urgently investigate and arrest the alleged perpetrator and allow justice to prevail.”

CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa accused Zanu PF of using violence because it’s afraid of losing the 2023 general elections.

“Violence is the weapon used by the desperate and losing! Using violence and intimidation is evidence of defeat, primitivism, savagery and backwardness. Stop it! said Chamisa.

But Zanu Pf Director of Information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi said everyone should focus on how the police will respond to the incident.

“I have just seen violent and horrible scenes in a video circulating targeted at some villagers. This should be condemned by every sober human being created in the image of God, and all our eyes should be on the next steps ZRP takes to deal with this matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police said they saw the video and are now carrying out investigations concerning the matter.

“The ZRP has taken note of a video which has gone viral on social media on alleged political violence in Murewa North. Investigations are now in progress. More details will be released in due course,” reads the police tweet on the force’s official Twitter account.
