Senior Citizen Nabbed In Connection With Murehwa Political Violence

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of a 67-year-old man for the violence that rocked Murehwa North recently.

In a statement on Tuesday, 10 January 2023, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, Never Chimutashu, is expected to appear in court soon.

“Reference is made to the ZRP Twitter message dated 7th January 2023 on the alleged Murewa North political violence incident.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of one of the suspects, Never Chimutashu (67), who is expected to appear in court in due course.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still conducting investigations, with a view to accounting for other suspects in this case,” Said Asst Comm Nyathi.

According to a video that went viral on social media platforms, several young people could be seen assaulting an elderly man as he lay prone on the ground for supporting the opposition.

Reports indicate that Morris Seremani (74), Susan Seremani (56), Beauty Chikoti (52), Chipo Mutizwa (37), Nyaradzai Chitauro (52), Sekuru Dongo (79) and Munyaradzi Dongo (38) were left with injuries after they were assaulted for allegedly supporting CCC.

The violence broke out in Chirowa Village, Murewa North.
