An unknown man recently collapsed at Hatcliffe police station after “assailants” reportedly assaulted him.
The man, who only identified himself as Thomas, allegedly arrived at the station with serious injuries on June 30 and was rushed to Hatcliffe Poly Clinic by an officer on duty but due to the seriousness of the condition, the clinic transferred him to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died on admission.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Provincial spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the tragic incident.
“On 30 June 2023 at around 1925 hours, the informant was manning ZRP Hatcliffe Police Post when the now deceased suddenly entered the charge office. He mentioned his first name as Thomas and further indicated that he was assaulted.
“Thereafter, he collapsed and was unable to talk. The informant observed that Thomas had a swollen face and was bleeding profusely. The informant quickly assisted Thomas and took him to Hatcliff Poly Clinic. Upon arrival the now deceased was immediately referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals as the medical staff could not stop the bleeding.
“The now deceased was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital for further examination and was admitted in the casualty resuscitation ward. On 1 July 2023 at around 0700 hours, the informant received a call from one of the medical staff at Parirenyatwa Group Hospital contactable on 0242[790505] informing her that Thomas had passed away,” Said Chakanza.
Investigations are currently in progress.
