Three Chinese nationals were reportedly robbed USD100 000 in Harare.

According to a police report, the six robbers allegedly pounced inside the home of three Chinese nationals in Greendale holding pistols. The robbers reportedly assaulted one of the Chinese nationals named Wang Zhou, who succumbed to the brutal attack and gave the robbers USD86 000.

On their way out, the “merciless” robbers also searched the pockets of other two Chinese nationals in the sitting room and allegedly took US$14 000.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) provincial spokesperson for Harare, Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.

He said investigations are in progress.

“On 7 of July 2023 at around 2200 hours, the complainant was resting in his sitting room together with his workmates. Six unknown accused persons who were wearing some mask jumped over the Durawall to gain entrance. They were armed with identified pistols, and two of the accused persons grabbed and tied both hands and legs with shoe laces, the security guard Stephen Nyakwangwa aged 49 employed by Animox Security who was manning the main gate.

“They threatened to kill the security guard if he did not comply. They searched him and took a Pistol [make and serial number no supplied] and a Tecno spark 7 cellphone. Four of the accused persons entered the house through the open the kitchen door. One of the accused persons produced a pistol and they demanded cash. They began to assault the complainant using a button stick. The complainant led the accused persons to his bedroom and opened a safe containing US$86 000-00. They went back to other two Chinese nationals who were in the sitting room  and searched their pockets and took US$14 000.

“The accused persons put the money into the satchel and took 2 x 2l cooking oil and a blanket. They switched all the lights and disappeared in the darkness. Total value stolen is US$100 000-00.”
