Seven Armed Robbers Attack Glenview Church & Get Away With US$

An AFM church security guard was allegedly attacked by a gang of seven armed robbers whilst he was in guard duty at the church’s premises in Glenview 3.

The assailants were allegedly armed with 3 guns and an iron.

According to a report made to the police, David Chiomba was seated in a parked lorry when he was allegedly approached by seven unknown assailants armed with three firearms, an axe, and an iron bar. The assailants are alleged to have ordered Chioma inside the lorry before locking him in.

One of the suspects, who was armed with pistol allegedly got into the lorry and stood guard over Chiomba whilst the other six assailants proceeded to the back entrance of the church where they allegedly forced open the back door to gain entry into the church.

The suspects damaged two office doors in the process and once inside they allegedly broke one cash box of containing an unknown amount of Zimbabwean dollars but they did not take the money.

They then took away one red small cash box containing an unknown amount of United States Dollars.

After the robbery the suspects allegedly tied Chiomba’s hands and legs with pieces of cloth before fleeing the scene.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.

“On 24 of September 2023 around 1800 hours the informant commenced night duty at Glenview 3 AFM church. Whilst sitting in a parked lorry within the premises at around 0300hrs the informant was approached by seven unknown black male adults who were armed with three unknown pistols, 01 axe and 01 iron bar.

“The accused persons instructed the informant to open the locked lorry door and he complied. One of the accused persons armed with a pistol got into the lorry and guarded informant whilst the other 06 accused proceeded to the back entrance of the church.

“They force opened the back door to gain entry into the church. They further broke 02 office doors. Whilst inside the office they broke one cash box containing an unknown amount of Zimbabwean dollars but they did not take the money.

“They then took away one red small cash box containing an unknown amount of United States Dollars. The informant was then tied both hands and legs by the accused persons with pieces of cloth and they left the scene.

“The informant managed to untie and proceeded to ZRP Glenview to file a report. ZRP Glenview and CID scenes attended the scene and nothing was recovered, the accused persons are still at large. Investigations are in progress, ZRP Glenview,” reads the docket.
