A woman in Waterfalls was recently left counting her loses after an alleged armed robber broke into her home and stole a total of US$5060.
According to a report made to the police, Perfect Maranga was left home alone by her employer Grace Kamunda who is employed at Shingirai Primary School in Mbare.
Its alleged that on the day in question, Maranga heard a knock on the living door and went to open it. Whilst she was standong at the door, an armed intruder allegedly pushed her inside the house. He allegedly aimed a pistol her.
The assailant allegedly threatened to shoot Maranga and demanded keys to the bedroom.
He allegedly then tied her hands and legs with shoe laces before using an unidentified object to break in and gain entrance into the main bedroom.
The suspect then searched the bedroom, allegedly taking two small metal boxes containing a total of US$5000. He allegedly also took US$60 from a handbag that was on the floor before escaping from the house.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“On 28 September 2023 at around 0950 hours the informant was left alone at house number 411 Retreat Park, Waterfalls, Harare by her employer Grace KAMUNDA aged 39, whilst she was going to her workplace at Shingirai Primary School in Mbare.
“The informant heard a knock at the lounge door and she opened the door to check outside. Whilst she was at the door she was pushed back inside the lounge with the accused. The accused person then withdrew an unknown pistol and pointed it to the informant.
“He threatened to shoot the informant and demanded keys to the bedroom door. The accused person picked a shoe which was on the floor, removed a shoelace and tied the informant on the hands and legs. The accused person then forced open the bedroom door with an unknown metal object and entered.
“He picked a handbag which was on the floor, searched it and took cash $60-00. The accused person also searched the whole room and took two small metal boxes which had cash US$5000. The accused person then left the house leaving the informant inside the lounge tied.
“The informant managed to untie herself and phoned her employer who is the complainant Grace KAMUNDA about the incident. A report was made at ZRP Waterfalls who attended the scene. No arrests was made. CID Homicide was advised. Total value stolen is US$5060-00 nothing was recovered,” reads the docket.
