Bulawayo Mayor Clr David Coltart says he will stay put in his position as Mayor of thr City of Bulawayo despite the resignation of his ally Nelson Chamisa from Citizens Coalition for Change Presidency.
Coltart, who regards the recalls by the party’s self imposed Secretary General Sengeso Tshabangu as “unscrupulous” said his decision to stay in was necessitated by his desire of not ditching the Bulawayo residents at a time of dire need.
The former minister of Primary and Secondary Education during the Government of National Unity (GNU) also said his decision to remain at Town House came after a thorough consultation with the residents, close friends and family, who he says urged him to defend the democratic space won after August 2023’s disputed elections.
Coltart added that he would continue to rally behind Chamisa, although he will not interfere in his squabbles with Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube, who were deputizing him during his tenure as CCC president.
Following the resignation of Chamisa as CCC President, a number of MPs resigned from the House Of Assembly, among them Fadzai Mahere (Mt Pleasant), Rusty Markham (Harare East) and Daniel Molokele (Hwange East).
Chamisa resigned in a huff, claiming that his party had been hijacked by “ZANU PF surrogates.”
CCC was plunged into chaos after self imposed Interim Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu unleashed a recall spree which mostly affected Chamisa’s trusted men & women within the opposition party.
