ZCC Opens Information Hub In Chiredzi As It Targets Youth Empowerment

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) in conjunction with Chiredzi Town Council has opened Chitsanga youth center in Chiredzi, which will function as a library, with free Wi-Fi for e-learning activities, and save as a platform for women, youths, and persons with disabilities to access and exchange information.

Chitsanga youth center’s primary objective will be to enhance the availability of and access to information regarding important development processes, such as devolution, to local communities.

Speaking at the official opening of the information hub, Chiredzi Town Secretary, Engineer Wesley Kauma said the hub will provide youth empowerment in the district and occupy them so that they won’t be dragged into the menace of drug and substance abuse.

Kauma also hailed the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHODC) for donating furniture and covering the internet service costs, adding that information centres would be built in all eight of Chiredzi’s wards.

“We are well aware of the challenges that our young people face in today’s world, particularly the menace of drug abuse and substance addiction. It is our collective responsibility to take action to provide our youth with an alternative path to success and create an environment that nurtures their talents and aspirations.

“We would also like to express our deep gratitude to ZCC for their generous contribution towards this initiative. Their donation of furniture for the library and their commitment to covering the internet service costs demonstrate their unwavering dedication to the well-being of our youths.

“This youth center is just the beginning. It serves as a pilot project that will pave the way for the establishment of information centers in all eight wards of Chiredzi,” he explained.

The ZHODC donation comes in handy as it revives the Chiredzi Information Centre, which has been idle for years due to lack of resources.

The partnership between the ZHODC & Chiredzi Town Council is one of the developmental programs that the church is working on with local authorities across the country.
