Two Police Officers In The Dock For Bribery

Two Mutare-based Police Officers, Dudzai Jennifer Chiponda (47), and Glynislynn Mustago (38), have been dragged to the Mutare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of bribery.

According to the charge, a pirate taxi driver was arrested by the accused on January 7 2025, for engaging in illegal pirating in the Mutare Central Business District.

Its alleged that in order to release the impounded vehicle, the two demanded a USD90 bribe.

The pirate driver then laid a trap and drove the duo to the offices of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), under the guise of going to his employer’s residency to collect the bribe money.

Upon arriving at ZACC offices, the driver left the accused in the car whilst he entered to report the case, leading to anti corruption officials laying a trap.

However, when the ZACC details came out, accused persons had already disappeared.

The driver then accompanied by the investigation officer who was posing as his employer, drove to the CBD where they parked. Whilst parked, the accused persons approached and entered the motor vehicle accusing the driver of deceiving them and demanding the bribe money.

After a successful negotiation, the accused took the money, leading to their arrest by ZACC details, leading to their appearance in court.

They were granted bail and will be back in court on the 25th of January 2025.
