A Harare traffic Police Officer was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by a kombi crew, losing his Samsung mobile phone worth USD300 in the process.
The incident allegedly took place last week Tuesday, when Constable Chigamba approached a Kombi that was parked at corner Robert Gabriel Mugabe & Julius Nyerere Way.
He then boarded the kombi and upon entry he arrested then attempted to effect an arrest, ordering the driver to go to Harare Central Police station. Its alleged that the driver disobeyed the order and instead drove along Seke rd.
Its alleged that when they got to the robots at Arcadia, the kombi crew started assaulting the Chigamba, ordering his to disembark from their vehicle. The officer also lost his Samsung mobile phone worth USD300.
After the attack, constable Chigamba was dumped and the kombi drove off at high speed. He allegedly sustained head injuries.
He then made a Police report and was directed to seek medical attention.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare provincial spokesperson Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“On 14 January 2025 at 2145 hours, the complainant together with Constable Mugwenjedzi were deployed for decongestion at corner Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Julius Nyerere way. Complainant arrested the accused person who was driving a Nissan Caravan for remaining stationary in the middle of the road where he was picking passengers.
“Complainant got into the accused person’s motor vehicle and instructed him to drive to Harare Central Police Station. The driver failed to comply and instead drove towards Arcadia along Seke Road .The accused person who was with his conductor stopped near Arcadia robots where they assaulted the complainant all over the body with unknown objects.
“They also stole complainant’s Samsung cell phone, which is valued at USD$300-00. After that, they dropped him and drove off towards Chitungwiza. The complainant sustained head injuries. A report was made at Harare Central Police Station, and the complainant was issued with a request for medical examination,” said Inspector Chakanza.
