President Emmerson Mnangagwa has on Friday sent condolence messages to the Harare-Mutare Highway Road accident victims’ families.
The accident that happened last week claimed nine lives.
In a press statement, Mnangagwa said the accident came as a shock to him.
”The death on Tuesday afternoon of nine people in a horrific road accident which occured along the highway between Rusape and Mutare came as a great shock to me. ” He said.
The President stated that he was deeply saddened to learn that most of the victims of the accident were members of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Collaborators Association (ZILWACO) who were on their way to Mutare for a meeting.
He added that life is important and everyone has a duty to safeguard it.
”Our country can not afford to lose precious lives needlessly through road accidents the majority of which are attributable to human error. Life is sacrosanct and everyone of us has a duty to respect and safeguard it.
”I do once again, appeal to all motorists and road users to exercise extreme caution on our roads all the time in order to avoid loss of life through road carnage.” ED said.
The President expressed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Zanu PF party.
”On behalf of the Party, Zanu PF, Government, and indeed on my behalf , I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and to members of ZILWACO on this their sad loss. In the same breath, we offer our prayers for the speedy recovery of those 4 who sustained injuries from the unfortunate mishap.” Mnangagwa said.
