The Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission(ZHRC) has joined the rest of the world in commemorating 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The 16 days of activism against gender based violence are commemorated every year from the 25th of November up to the 1oth of December in a bid to end violence against women worldwide.
In a statement, ZHRC educated the nation about these 16 days saying they are days of rejection and denouncement of GBV especially to women.
“The designated 16 days of Activism provide provide an opportunity for collective rejection and denouncement of violence against women and also encourage conversation around prevention of this scourge.
“The commemoration provide an opportunity to explore ways in which society can collectively influence deconstruction of harmful and retrogressive attitudes, believes and behaviours that allow gender prejudice to fester, creating a climate where different forms of violence are prevalent.” The statement read in part.
“Both men and women can be victims of Gender Based Violence. Be a Hero and protect both.” Yield Trust Zimbabwe posted on their twitter handle.
