Heavy Downpours In Excess Of 50mm In 24 Hours Predicted

The Zimbabwe Meteorological Service Department (Met) has predicted heavy rains for this week in most parts of the country with an excess of 50 millimeters in 24 hours.

In a statement, the Met department said the storms maybe accompanied by winds and lightning and therefore flooding may occur.

“Widespread thunderstorms are expected across the country with localised heavy downpours in excess of 50mm in 24 hours. These storms may be accompanied by destructive winds and lightning,

“Localised flash flooding may occur in areas with poor drainage” The statement read in part.

For tomorrow, 03.12.2020, Met said, “Manicaland, Masvingo, Midlands, Matabeleland North, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland provinces should expect widespread thunderstorms accompanied by intermittent rain showers. Heavy downpours in excess of 50mm can not be ruled out.”

“The southern parts of the country (Masvingo, Bulawayo Metropolitan as well as Matabeleland South Provinces) should be cloudy in the morning with light drizzle and rain in the morning.” the statement further read.
