Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects for unlawfully dealing with dangerous drugs in Mutare.
In a statement, Police spokesperson, Ass commissioner Paul Nyati confirmed the arrest.
”Police confirms the arrest of two male suspects, Larry Clay Manyellah (38) and Probe Zijena(21) for unlawfully dealing in dangerous drugs and the recovery of 24×50 kgs sacks of dagga weighing 1080 kgs at Mutare Show Grounds main gate on 24th May 2021.” Read the statement.
Ass Comm Nyati said the suspects were stopped at the Police check point and the driver failed to comply at first.
”The two suspects who were driving a green Toyota Granvia vehicle along Mutare-Masvingo road were stopped at a Police check point at Hot Springs,
”The driver did not comply and hit the road block drums before speeding off heading towards Mutare.” He said.
ZRP used a strategy to follow the suspects that were escaping.
”The police team gave a chase and alerted all police check points in the city to be on lookout for the suspects.” He said.
Nyati added that the suspects realised that all police check points were alerted and they headed to Chikanga Location in Mutare where they were involved in a minor road traffic accident and the suspects left their vehicle and fled into a nearby maize field.
The police attended the accident.
”The police attended the accident scene and searched the suspects’ vehicle leading to the recovery of dagga.” He said.
Ass Comm Nyati added that further investigations then led to the arrest of the two suspects who implicated another suspect who is their leader.
