Government has introduced a master plan to rehabilitate all major roads specifically in all urban areas, a move which they assume will curb congestion as well as enhancing government hopes of achieving world class roads by 2030.
The master plan includes road infrastructure development, enhancing public transport system and enforcement.
Government’s road rehabilitation master plan comes after a lot of urban roads across the country are marred with potholes and damaged street lights.
Speaking during a post cabinet media briefing in Harare yesterday, Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said the government has set a budget to rehabilitate road infrastructure in all urban areas.
“The public is advised that the infrastructure component includes the repair of street lights along all major truck roads, repair and upgrading of traffic signals at major junctions, installation of new traffic signals and edition of filter lanes at roundabouts,” she said.
Currently the government is resurfacing Seke road which is over 80% complete. They are also repairing Simon Mazorodze puzzle road junction which will be part of the Mbudzi traffic interchange and it is now over 75% complete.
The government also assured the nation that it has completed designs at Mbudzi interchange of roads which consist of Chimhanda, Stoneridge, Malinga and Forbes Roads.
