Liverpool Team News

Liverpool aim to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Watford on Saturday lunchtime following the international break.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played out an enthralling 2-2 draw with Manchester City before the international break, with goals form Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne cancelling out Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s efforts.

The Reds occupy second spot in the league table after seven matches, but the hectic fixture schedule is once again set to add to Klopp’s frustrations this weekend.

Thiago Alcantara suffered a calf injury against Crystal Palace earlier this month and was initially ruled out until after the international break, but there are concerns that he will not be ready for Saturday after he was not spotted in training images earlier this week.

Harvey Elliott is on the long road to recovery after a serious ankle injury and will not return until the latter stages of the season, that is if he is given the green light to play again this term.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was not able to link up with the England squad due to a groin injury, but the right-back is reportedly back in training and should be available for selection this weekend.

Divock Origi was not fit to face Man City due to illness and remains a doubt for this contest, which could be a bitter blow to Klopp given another potential attacking absentee.

Diogo Jota was forced to withdraw from the Portugal squad due to a muscular problem and has now emerged as a major doubt for the trip to Vicarage Road.

First-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker is highly unlikely to be available for this clash due to his late return from international duty with Brazil, with a lunchtime Saturday kickoff surely too quick a turnaround.

Similarly, Fabinho’s final game for Brazil this month will be in the early hours of Friday morning UK time, and the midfielder is highly unlikely to be ready to go again on Saturday.
