NUST Reverses USD Fee Hike

Zimbabwean News You Can Trust.

The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has reversed a United States Dollars (USD) fee hike following a protest by students.

NUST reversed the USD fee hike after the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) engagement with the authorities, according to a notice

In a statement NUST said students should continue to pay their tuition fees using the preset ZWL fees structure adopted in September 2022 insisting the same fees will be pegged at the prevailing interbank rate.

Reads the statement addressed to fellow students:

Dear fellow students

Compliments of the season to you all. We hope this message finds you well and in good health.

We want to update you on the recent developments concerning the call by the SRC for students to stay away from University premises. After a meeting with University Management, we are pleased to announce that we have reached favorable resolutions that are pro-student.

We are happy to inform you that the recently hiked fees of USD$720 have been revoked and removed from your portals. Students will now continue to pay the preset ZWL fees structure adopted in September 2022.

We encourage all students to proceed to pay the fees they were paying last semester and register. To preserve the value of the finances, the same fees will be pegged at the prevailing interbank rate, and the USD fees structure will be taken down and replaced with last semester’s updated ZWL fees structure.

This is a significant achievement for us as a Students Union and demonstrates the power of unity. Together, we can stop the privatization of education and ensure that our voices are heard.

Once again, we wish you a good season and all the best in your studies.
