Tavimbanashe Chawatama (28) and Leonard Nyakudya (25) appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on sodomy charges.
According to the State’s case, the two men began dating sometime in August 2023, lived together, and engaged in consensual same-sex relationships. The State further claims that they occasionally used their phones to record themselves while acting out.
After an altercation between the two on 27 August, 2024, during which the first accused person made the decision to move out of the house, the situation became public. When the other person is alleged to have cheated.
The argument escalated and the second accused decided to move out of the house. When the second accused person was about to move out, the first accused noticed that his money was missing.
The two defendants made the decision to contact the Police in order to address the missing money issue. However, when they described their living situation and the missing money, they unintentionally provided the Police with information about the crime of sodomy, which led to their arrest.
The accused persons were granted USD50 bail and the matter was remanded to the 6th of September 2024.
