Harare Shuts Down Morton Jeffrey

The Harare City Council has shut down the city’s main water supply treatment plant, Morton Jeffrey water works for the whole weekend siting a shortage of key chemicals.

In a statement yesterday, the city council said water will not be available in Harare the whole weekend.

“Please be advised that we have no choice but to shut down Morton Jeffrey at about 18.00 hours today (Thursday) due to stockout of aluminium sulphate, the major water treatment chemical.” The statement read.

The country has been experiencing severe water shortages, the continuous water shortages in urban areas will likely cause outbreaks of waterborne diseases such as typhoid and cholera.
