The main opposition party leader, Nelson Chamisa, has said Zimbabweans will economically benefit if the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) assumes power from President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the crunch 2023 general elections.
In 2023, Chamisa will be vying his nemesis President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of the Zanu PF party.
Posting on his Twitter handle, Chamisa said if his party assumes power, the economy will be restored to normalcy. He insisted that political violence during elections will be buried.
He said, “AGAINST ALL ODDS…Prepare for the final burial of poverty, hunger, suffering and violence in Zimbabwe. It’s going to a big funeral! It’s done and dusted. It’s sealed and settled. The shift has happened. Change is inevitable. ZIMBABWE start celebrating.”
Although the opposition claim they are victims of violence in every election, during his endorsement at the Zanu PF National Congress, where he was chosen as the sole presidential candidate next year, Mnangagwa called for peace and unity among Zimbabweans before, during and after the election period.
“Let us mobilize and encourage our people to register to vote and turn up in numbers to vote for Zanu PF on election day” (…) “Never grow tired of preaching unity, never grow tired of preaching peace and never grow tired of preaching love, never grow tired of preaching harmony among our people”,he said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, came to power in 2017 after toppling long-time ruler Robert Mugabe in a coup backed by the army.
In 2018 he won disputed elections which his main rival Nelson Chamisa, then leader of the Movement for Democratic Change leader insists were rigged.
